The Spark Behind the Design Journey

Our founder, Ruby, is a multi-hyphenated mom. She spent much of her professional career as an early ed and elementary ed teacher with certifications specializing in teaching students with special needs and children who speak languages other than English.

With this background, she's applied her knowledge about the way children learn and develop into interior environments that would maximize their creative, linguistic, and critical thinking potential.

As Ruby taught students over the years, she realized how children's environments affected their mood, creativity, and development. She realized that kids' spaces shouldn't just be about cute color schemes and furniture, but that they should account for research-based learning opportunities that foster curiosity and joy.

When the time came to design a room for her own son, she designed a space that would support his ever-evolving needs - a room that didn't just look nice, but one that inspired him at every turn. After designing a few friends' and family's nurseries and play spaces, it became clear that this passion was more than a simple hobby. Ruby founded Romp & Rest with one goal: to create functional, enchanting, and personalized spaces that children could proudly call their own.

Today, the company brings that same love and care to every room, turning ordinary spaces into extraordinary environments where kids thrive.
